Have you ever wondered if you are a good cat owner? Or whether you are doing the right things for you cat? Or questioned whether your cat would be happier somewhere else? We all have these doubts sometimes, but I am here to reassure you - you are an amazing cat caregiver - and here are the signs to know for sure!
Number one is that you know no two cats are the same and adapt your cat parenting style just for them. They have different needs, different personalities and different quirks and the fact that you know your cat and their unique needs is a huge sign that you are doing an amazing job of taking care of your cat.
Number two is that you listen to what your cat is trying to tell you. You are really tuned in to their vocalisations, body langauge and behaviour. No one knows your cat better than you do and recognising what is normal for your cat and keeping an eye out for any changes is another sign you are doing a wonderful job.
The third sign is that you seek out preventative veterinary care - not every cat owner does. Having them neutered and keeping up with their vaccinations (where appropriate) and taking them for routine health checks are essential to prevent some illnesses as well as allowing for early detection of health concerns. Cats don't often tell us when they're unwell, so if you're advocating for their health and well being, you are amazing!
Sign number four is that you tailor the way you interact with your cat based on what they like. There is often no 'one size fits all' with cats. If you know your cat LOVES attention and all the hands on stroking they can get and you're there to give it to them - go you! But also, if you understand they aren't so hands on, they prefer you talking to them but not stroking, or having game with a toy instead of being cuddled, this is just as awesome. If you're gauging it right - and this could be different for every cat you have - you're doing a great job!
Finally - and this is one I know applies to you! - you are looking to learn more about your cat. You've made it to the end and not everybody does. No one knows everything. There is so much we don't know and so much research to be done! Keep learning! And keep doing what you're doing - you've got this cat lover!
