My cat’s being aggressive…

If you find yourself in the company of a cat that scratches, hisses, bites or swipes at you or other people, you’ll know this can be challenging – sometimes even scary. It can feel like you’re living your life around your cat rather than sharing it with them.

It could be mild aggression that doesn’t really cause any injuries, or severe aggression that leaves you concerned for your safety – both can be upsetting and have a huge detriment on your relationship. You might even feel your cat doesn’t like you and maybe you’re finding it difficult to enjoy time with them too – I totally get it.

Whether your cat is pouncing on your feet on a nighttime trip to the bathroom or enjoying a stroke one minute but drawing blood the next, I can help you with my aggression package. During our consultation, we will ascertain why they are behaving like this and can develop a clear action plan for getting your relationship back on track. Wouldn’t it be a relief to relax while spending time with your cat rather than feeling constantly on edge about those teeth or claws.

If you can relate to this, you’re in the right place.

Jax’s story

I was lucky to work with Jax, a very well loved and beautiful Bengal whose behaviour was becoming increasingly challenging for his owners. Jax would frequently stalk the adults in the home, grabbing and biting them and looking very intimidating. This was becoming increasingly difficult to manage as it was hard to move around the home without triggering Jax’s aggression.

Luckily Jax’s owners were super committed to resolving the problem and we worked together to understand how Jax was feeling and with my support they could give Jax everything he needed to transform his behaviour. They saidFriends who visit can't quite believe he's the same cat who would swipe, stalk, and hiss. He doesn't give anyone a second glance, too busy sunbathing and snoozing after his long nights of adventuring around the neighbourhood. He's incredibly patient with our now 2-year-old and I'm so happy to say I've not been stalked in well over six months. It’s a joy to know Jax is thriving with his lovely family and their hard work and determination has paid off!

FAQs

  • We are working with living, sentient animals with their own unique personalities, there are never any guarantees. However, part of my role is to understand your unique cat and their emotional needs and specific triggers for aggression. With this information, we can work together to find the solution that works for you and your cat to encourage positive interactions and keep your cat happy.

  • The reality is – some cats are in a situation that they just cannot cope with. Unless there are significant welfare concerns and the risks are very high (i.e., severe aggression with injuries), rehoming will not be recommended without extensive behavioural modifications and exhausting all appropriate avenues to help them feel happy and reduce aggressive incidents.

  • If you have the right level of cover - yes. I am a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist and my accreditations do mean you can reclaim the fee. Unfortunately, I’m not able to accept payments direct from insurance companies, so payment is sent to me first and you can claim it back.

  • For severe aggression cases, it is often better to see the cat in their home. For less severe cases, Zoom consultations are absolutely available and have been very effective! You will need to provide more information initially, but the rest of the package is the same.

  • Up to 30 minutes travel (each way, from SO30 2GL) is included in the package. Between 30-60 minutes will incur a mileage fee of 45p per mile over 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I cannot travel for more than 60 minutes, but will be happy to help you over Zoom.
