I've had lots of questions on helping cats get along in multicat household so I will be sharing my 5 top tips to help as many of you as I can! Remember all situations are different, but hopefully there is something for everyone to try.
π£Tip 1: Reduce competitionπ£
ππββ¬ Ever wondered why colonies of cats live together without a problem but sometimes our cats struggle? Free living cats will only form groups if there's enough food and shelter to go round - in other words - there is no competition.
ππββ¬ Reflecting this in our homes relieves tension and associated aggression. However, it is much more complicated as our comfortable cats value a lot more than just food and shelter.
ππββ¬ Max out your home with litter trays, feeding stations (or feed meals apart), water stations, toys and BEDS BEDS BEDS! Make them feel like they all have some ownership within the territory and this is where they belong. Think about what sort of trays or beds each of your cat prefers and make sure you are catering for all.
ππββ¬ If there is tension around a particular area, e.g. the top of a cat tree, provide a second close by to relieve competition for everyone's favourite bed!
If you have a 6 cat household, make sure it looks like you have a 6 cat household! ππππππ
I have so much more to say π, but there's more to come in tomorrow's tip! Check back tomorrow to find out more...!
