This fantastic new book from cat behaviour guru and best selling author, Celia Haddon, and the infinitely knowledgable Professor Daniel Mills is an absolute joy to read. The pages place you in the mind of your cat, helping to decipher the mysteries of how your cat experiences the world.
The book begins by exploring what it would be like living life in a feline body, taking you through the physical make up of a cat and what it would be like to have four paws, a tail and whiskers, and discusses the function of the various body parts too. From here the book moves on to “your” ancestry and how cats found their way into our homes thousands of years previous, which I always find fascinating.
It is interesting to go on to read about each of your senses as a cat and how they influence your behaviour. This section is particularly enlightening, helping to empathise with cats and understand the difference in how we interpret our interactions with them. For example, the authors explain how if a cat sees something moving in their peripheral vision, they will be inclined to chase it - including the hands or feet of their owners.
The section on feline communication is super informative, covering vocalisations, body language, touch and scent marking. There are some excellent visuals here too, that really help illustrate the the points being made here and at other points throughout the book.
The final parts of the book concentrate on living life as a pet cat and the importance of cats having choices and therefore control over their environment. This part of the book is particularly intriguing and lets the reader know the mistakes they may be making in a very non-judgemental way, while providing advice on the best way to make your cat happy.
A great read! The expert information is gold and is presented in a really easy to digest, fun and unique way. I would recommend it to any cat owner looking to take a walk in their cats paws.
